Can You Defrost Chicken Safely this Way?

I bought thin sliced chicken and was hoping to marinate them tonight but i forgot to defrost the chicken. It is safe to run cold water over the package until its a little soft, and then take each piece and hold it under cold water while maging out the ice until its not frozen?
