What kind of guitar should i get - I'm thirteen years old and i want a guitar for my birthday?

i'm turning fourteen in three months and i desperately want a guitar! my mom got me one when i was twelve, but it was a kiddie guitar - i want a big guitar (a real one) but i've never played guitar before and i need to know what kind of guitar a person my age should get...i think i want a electric guitar, but then again i do like the acoustic ones.. i need help, because i have to have serious information on the guitar i want. so if you can please tell me what kind of guitar that would work best for me!
